•Freight contributes to significant
revenue of railways but no effort has been taken to improve luggage
compartments for public/small enterprises/business. Bringing
changes with
expert in global logistics, railwaymen with their experience, retired
railwaymen suggestions for issues with freights, business currently, concord,
etc,. We have to move from British era of railways to New Age Indian railways
for freight. International
freight practices used by DHL, BlueDart should be used and other railway
systems related to freight and luggage must be automated with high end IT and
online to track and improve end to end.
•Bigger luggage compartments or adding one more luggage compartment in trains with massive demand of goods movement primarily across metros or demand route to improve revenue. Steel boxes similar to the ones used in aeroplanes need to be used for grouping of freight into smaller steel box for postal, one for vegetables, etc,. Avoiding having goods blocking passengers at stations on platforms. AAI can be asked for help.
•Importing of ultra modern freight coaches used by other countries or designs or patents for our Indian railways to re-construct or copy here, MOU with any countries in technology sharing. If the Railways doesn’t have the expertise to build then private manufacturers can be allocated land to manufacture only after using sample compartments in heavy real time usage for at least one year. Or Railways can prepare the base part of the compartment and private can do interior designing.
•Refrigeration facilities for carrying fish, meat and separated from others so that the smell does not pass on to others. Currently fishermen have to use thermocole boxes to keep ice. But actually when transferring the boxes open up or break leading to too much bad smell at railway stations. Some vegetables and fruits which might rot or get damaged without refrigeration like tomatoes, apples, oranges, carrot, etc,. Separate space for vegetables like onions, potatoes, etc,. Can provide steel container with goods to transfer fast. Movement of flowers from one part to another with refrigeration with separate cabin so that smell of flowers don’t sync to others. Dry cabin for rice and wheat and pulses, etc,. Light and fragile goods handling has to be meticulously done for TV, mirror, glass. Postal movement and e-commerce industry boxes needed for moving cardboard packages without getting damaged or wet.
•Govt staff who are transferred from one location to another part of country should be given package options through railways to transfer their household items by specialised team to handle. Currently govt staff use private operators for transportation.
•Electronic weighing machines at all stations identified as junctions for small loads and wagon loads with high precision and revised every 2 months by an agency and verified by private and international agencies to improve weight precision so that railways does not lose revenue due to wrong weight. CBI has already raised concerns and arrested few railwaymen for using old and traditional methods of wrong weighing and loss in revenue. Small things like this corrected will have impact
•Railway announcements must be made in regional language of destination station also. Not only English, Hindi and regional language of departure. Some passengers of destination might know only their regional language.
