Piracy of Indian Films - India is the worlds highest producer of films and Govt has not taken any productive decision to protect Indian film producers from piracy other than just blocking websites

• •Every Friday movies releases in India in several languages and several billions of dollars are spent in movie making. But piracy is helping some agencies abroad to earn revenue by selling pirates versions of India movies. Even Indian music piracy has lead to loss of revenue for music labels. There are some music pirated by our neighbour agents with .pk as the website ending names.
• •Creating generic email id for example:copyrights@nic.in and provided to all movie producers, lead actors of the movie, technicians as sometimes producers to spoil someone career will purposefully release original earlier in online. So give to lead actors and technicians also and when getting film certification itself and details can be sent to that email id to bring down any website or links. Bringing down torrents entirely wont be possible but links and other websites which are cropping up daily can be reduced. The focus must be on protecting Indian film industry. Email id will help reporting by all agencies from across India and the globe. The email must be monitored by Ministry of information and broadcasting, DOT and separate nic team must be formed to work with concerned producers to bring down links and take help from google (YouTube links) and other websites to reach out and also with international contacts to reach out to police of respective country police to catch hold of those who take part in these activities
• •Piracy can be brought down by following concepts 1) Asking movie makers to introduce special 16-30 digit binary code in all movies which appears every 30 mins in the movie at the centre so that if anyone video graphs the movie from theatres the code can be used to track down from where it was taken. The code should be used internationally for Indian films even if transmitted globally. The code should have different parts indicated country code, city/district code, theatre code, date and show time. Example: +91(India)-44(Chennai)-0001(Given to theatres by Govt within each state or globally)-ddmmyy-1800. This should be displayed and below that hexa-decimal number by encrypting must also be displayed by encrypting above code. Ask your cyber cell they will know. This will help find out the theatre and raid to fix issue. You put the rule after working with film producers and implemented for all Indian films. This will help identify the culprit easily when first print gets released online. There should be separate website to find out the theatre but entering code. 2) Compulsorily putting digital code big enough to be captured when the Intermission is announced other than between shows to capture id of theatre to track 3) The initiative must be kept secret and even theatre owners should not know only movie producers council must know and software used to transmit like Cube. 4) for theatres which use reel to put movies must have hardcoded id printed and asked to use to stick on glass to show on theatre screen at mentioned times 5) The code must be shown after the movie starts transmitting after intermission. Exactly after all Govt ads are transmitted as piracy guys don’t put the ads and all so put after 5 mins after movie starts. Some producers might say it is not good idea but actually convince them they don’t have any other choice to find the ground level who pick movie from theatres by using cameras. For each language few theatres in rural places and remote districts during night show I believe the movie is shot and uploaded to earn money from ads and other ways. Hindi movie industry might not worry because they show across the globe but for regional movies they get affected badly as screens for release is less and if print releases the loss is very high. Introduce suddenly without even theatre owners knowing so that culprits can be caught in single shot.
• •DVD of the original movie is released abroad which is again being printed or uploaded online. For example: In Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Europe Indian producers sell their move in DVD abroad within 2 weeks of release. But those guys buy and upload online. Even in that if producers delay release of DVD to 4 weeks after release it will help prevent. Also adding digital coding the one like above with region of sale in place of theatre code will help identify the place from where it gets uploaded. The coding can be placed in the movie at important scenes which cannot be cut every 25 mins to identify source.
• •Many local Cable TV channels which illegally show latest movies in their areas in remote districts and villages. The copyright spend by authorised TV channels is lost. The local police and politicians have hand in local cable TV. The cable TV can turn earn revenue by giving DTH boxes and also giving broadband connection at low cost in turn achieving highest internet broadband penetration. Currently many private vendors are giving Wi-Fi and fibre internet that is helping. The same also if reported must be taken up. The report of this should go to IG level or DGP level in the state so action is taken promptly and fined.
• •Govt should conduct short films concept to help bring out issues & solutions to move India to new level. Short Films are big hit among youth setup join panel from different states who are told in the field of film industry. Short Films can be of any language with subtitles in English. Promoting short films will help Govt reach out to youth and conducting short film festival on this lines with best talent from across country. Some short film makers might even find producers or distributors to fund their movie. Govt must allocate some topics for the short film festivals at least 10 of them they should not be primarily on Central govt schemes alone but should be on generic topics also.
• •Non Availability of Indian movies in DTH within 2 weeks of release has also lead to heavy piracy. If movie producers of regional languages move to DTH platform post 1 week will help greatly. Even if a movie is failed at box office also they can release in DTH to earn revenue.
• •Just blocking the websites by DOT wont be enough. You have to track down the websites with help of cyber cells of other countries & bank accounts of money transfer based on ad hosting companies to find out more because ad companies will pay to a bank account and that can be used to track transactions by the ATM or debit card but for that you need help of global cyber agencies help which can be directly Govt owned or private agencies. Govt can setup up joint setup with top producers from all states and Govt representations to take up and  resolve issues.
• •There are many reasons. Govt and the MP’s act as if they don’t know anything about pirated movies or who creates them. There is a big link among Theatres owners, actors, external agencies, terrorists agencies as a source of funding with these money, several sources.
• •I don’t want any press release or some fancy raids but real action on this front. Just blocking websites wont help. There is a deep network use IB, RAW and its cyber cell to work for this. Public will continue to use pirated websites to download as long as it is available as a new site comes up daily but Govt needs to real kingpin behind these activities who are happily enjoying lives abroad. The websites can be accessed with proxy links so bringing down website entirely is only solution by various methods.
• •Currently the time taken for removing a link has lot of procedures. So the form work must be less in should not necessarily be a producer but anyone to bring down a link by just sending an email or website
