Railways - Suggestions - Tatkal System, Change tatkal booking to 3 days from current 1 day before, DEMU trains in partially electrified routes, 4 premium tatkal seats per compartment in 3A/C coaches opened 14 days before, EQ tickets at tatkal fare diff paid to TT, More trains from Shirdi to Mumbai/Pune

RPF generally avoid travelling in unreserved coaches or the coach next to unreserved coaches to help public board train and control crowd. Most people sit near door itself leading to passengers in forth coming stations not able to enter. Even TT cannot enter unreserved coaches to check tickets. Clearly showing the lack of intent of Railway staff to find solutions. Make Railway staff stand at station platforms to check the ticket details once they get down from unreserved coaches. Run fully unreserved trains at peak hours to fulfill demand.
 
It is high time new unreserved coaches are designed for high crowd usage a) More separate seats like buses b) A merge of second sitting design and bus design to have separate seat to accommodate more people. They can sleep by sitting also. If separate seat not possible then second sitting design or EMU design needed for unreserved coaches for more sitting & standing space c) If there are 4 unreserved coaches in a train make one compartment in this model with more sitting space like bus d) This will help more unreserved passengers to sit easily and capacity increases e) The current design of unreserved coaches with long horizontal seats like sleeper berths with space above for luggage doesn’t help in number of passengers sitting since it occupies more space. Currently no space to stand also
 
In partially electrified routes, DEMU trains can be run in following routes non stop like suburban. Example: Villupuram(VM) – Thiruvannamalai(TNM), Trichy(TPJ) – Mayiladuthurai( MV) in short trips
 
Increase stoppage time at tambaram (TBM) station to 4 minutes since hundreds of passengers need to get on board. The 2 minutes extra can be covered by trains by the stretch from Chennai Egmore to tambaram and also after tambaram also. But current 2 minutes is not enough. People feel that railways wastes time in crossing at signals but when people need to get on train they don’t give sufficient stoppage time and cover in journey time by increase in speed of 10kmph
 
Please change tatkal system to book 3 days before itself. Current 1 day before leads to lot of anxiety whether we will get ticket or not. If some very important meeting is there then people tend to suffer as their plans go hay wire. A long distance traveller who travels more than 600 kms tends to be benefitted since once he gets down he may need to get return ticket by tatkal to return. So 3 days will be optimal for short(starts on Friday/Saturday and returns on Sunday) and long distance to plan.
 
To stop menace in EQ quota for both Railway staff and other Govt staff. All EQ tickets must be charged only at tatkal fare. The difference of fare between booked ticket charge and tatkal must be taken by TT.
Railways must also consider allotting 4 seats per coach for premium fare(premium tatkal) in 3 A/C with booking starting before 14 days with base fare as tatkal ticket. The tickets which are not sold can be added to tatkal quota by system on day before. There is huge demand for 3A/C but Railways if gives tickets in premium rate in normal trains also it will be hit for those who can afford. 14 days was by best calculation with scenarios.
 
The doors in A/C compartments must be made sliding doors since current system is causing difficulty to passengers to sleep. Since in the each end of compartment the doors hit the legs of sleeping passengers leading to very high uneasiness to sleep. This needs to be corrected to sliding doors so that the passengers inside are not affected at any cost. It feels like we have done a sin by booking A/C ticket since people keep entering and going near door. The sliding door with automatic shutting will help. The current system of door opening around hinges hits the legs of sleeping passengers the full night sleep is lost. Sleep is more valuable than the A/C ticket. Ask ICF, Kapurthala and Bhopal factory to redesign coaches.
 
Ponmalai Railway workshop in Trichy, TamilNadu has experience in building/maintaining coaches/compartments. Hence the space available with Railways is plenty to convert it as a Railway Coach maintenance yard cum manufacturing yard. The ponmalai workshop has record for building highest number of freight wagons more than 1000 per year. Their hard work and perfect delivery of goods is an easy choice to make it as a coach manufacturing hub. The need for coaches is increasing daily. If the project is given ok, it should be automated entirely by Siemens and other robotic arms to build coaches in record time. Compared to the demand for coaches the Railways produces very less. And the current govt has not been successfully in running any new trains in ordinary fares. So that is a very big minus till now. So more coaches will ease pressure to run more trains. Even though we have lot of time available for efficient track usage the lack of coaches if a big minus to the growing population.
 
There is huge demand for 2A/C as more people came out of middle class. But Railways keeps adding only 3A/C which is very cramped and lacks facilities compared to 2A/C. The 2A/C coaches would have made Railways a cash rich organisation but poor strategy by Railway board led to such a situation of targeting the sleeper class fares. Have a target of adding one 2A/C coach in key trains which have very high demand.
Please allot senior citizens quota for A/C chair car and second class sitting in all the type of trains (Duronto, Shatabdi, Rajdhani) and all reserved coaches in passenger trains.
 
Need for more trains between Mumbai to Shirdi and Pune to Shirdi. The  number of trains are very less in this high demand route in spite of high tourist visit daily. How Railways purposefully ignored the tourist and religious route is astonishing. Please deploy more trains with daily twice on all days. People from other parts of the country can use them after reaching Mumbai. 
 
Railways must take up social welfare causes a) Using IRCTC portal to take donations for various agencies and during floods/emergencies to distribute directly by collecting through IRCTC portal by giving details of address to courier so that Railways can dispatch directly by Coordinating with Central Govt & State Govt b) Many beggars are present in the suburban trains daily. Even transgender behave badly and force public to shell out money for them. Govt must work out strategy to rehabilitate them by giving work in Railways like selling products, cleaning stations. This Is a possible fix. Also working with NGO in each state to work out a solution for this issue. Children begging is an offence but Railways space like platform, stations and trains used for begging must be seen very seriously. Railways must work with multi agencies like UN, NGO, State Govt, RPF to rehabilitate children in schools, adults or parents of those begging children in work of Railways as contract work.
 
Passenger train no 56860 from Villupuram (VM) to Tambaram (TBM) remains unutilised for more than 10 hours in TBM in day time. The train can be instead used to run between TBM to TPTY(Thirupathi) as express passenger via Gudur. The loss to Railways due to under utilisation can be avoided.

Railways – Role of T.T.E, WhatsApp to help passengers as more public use WhatsApp compared to twitter, Training of teams under local DRM,GM in regional headquarters to form team to fix issues 24*7 forwarded by Railmin and independently, T.T.E must ask to report issues on the fly to local and top level with WhatsApp or twitter instead of being mute spectator to public concerns, Centralised IVRS & security helpline no must be added to twitter profile of Railmin twitter account and of Railway minister, Installing laser guided checking equipment & noise level test in the under carriage of train compartment's and engines to check the quality of tracks & fed to computers and overhauled periodically, All India Rail Quiz for Rail fans is much needed to boost Rail fans support & research for years

Generally T.T.E end work with ticket collection but they should extend their roles before end of duty and in travel time. T.T.E must take up any complaints or suggestions of public in a sheet to be provided under different clauses like a) Lack of mobile/laptop chargers or chargers not working b) No water available in toilet or hand wash area c) Issue with doors not able to open easily or gets stuck d) Issue with lighting inside coaches e) Seat Issue f) Any noise from the coach undercarriage during high speed running as this will only lead to derailment and accidents due to old coaches. If very high unbearable noise comes during train movement at high speeds T.T.E must report so that it can rectified by rail staff  g) Lack of water must be reported on T.T.E completes duty and also try to reach out to officials to rectify issue h) Issue of lack of pillows in A/C coaches i) Lack of A/C cooling in A/C coaches must also be looked into j) Poor maintained windows or broker windows must be reported k) Lack of pantry services may be reported by taking signs from passengers who feel they need pantry in the train or online catering services. They should submit all details in a form filled on end of duty to reporting officer who will fwd. it.
T.T.E must be told to stick pamphlets of Railways achievements and also give details of contact details to give feedback by public. Email is best form of anonymous feedback and railways can use that that improve services but Railways till now provided a proper email to send feedback. Preferably Gmail because .gov.in email id are generally blocking. The details must be stuck in all coaches. Behind all tickets details of support numbers to contact must be printed along with the twitter and Facebook tags to tweet or post so that action can be taken and the DRM and GM of concerned division  details.
T.T.E must take up issue by tweeting to @railminindia and given separate email address to T.T.E to complain on the spot to concerned authorities to take up action before next stop. Some times new T.T.E might not know whom to reach so details of whom to contact must be printed on ticket sheet before hand so that any issue can be notified. T.T.E if we complain generally remain mute and say want can we do
T.T.E contact details must be shared with guard and guard details must be printed on the ticket sheet. So any major issue inside train can be notified to the guard. The earlier instance of a youth tied to a window created huge ruckus hence railways must ensure details of all T.T.E and guard are printed in all ticketing sheets held with T.T.E definitely. If possible print details on top of charts also so that public can complain. Similarly on who pulled chain can be notified by driver to guard and guard can tell to concerned T.T.E of that coach to take action. Currently no communication between guard and T.T.E during issues
Railways must also install laser systems in selected trains to check tracks for cracks during movements by installing devices in under carriage of some of the trains. The noise level indicator must be installed so that if any heavy noise when changing tracks or swivel movement can be monitored to improve tracks in those regions during periodic overhaul. This will save lot of manual work and dependency on Gangman. The laser guided system will cost only thousands and noise level indicators are very cheap. So combination of this in important key track routes and key trains which generally travel at high speed will help gauge if the track & train can be used for high speed operations. The data stored in device must be sent to computers over internet and analysed by tech teams, IRCTC, NTES and engineering teams.
Pls start WhatsApp based service of providing assistance as many public are more aware to use WhatsApp compared to twitter and Facebook. WhatsApp also has website so that railway team can monitor the WhatsApp messages sent in the website and in turn forward to concerned team. Just create a centralised number for entire India for the same.
I am still astonished as to how Railmin team manages so many tweets coming every minute even a computer cannot answer perfectly. Your team has proved that human brain is more powerful than a computer. So many good brains working together is more powerful than a super computer. Hats off!!! You have beaten all records of computers but no one is there to prove the genius in your team effort. Are the regional DRM and GM have created teams in head office to man tweets forwarded to them day and night it seems though regional teams don’t work on night and not available minute by minute. So the local divisions of Railways must be made active 24 *7 with teams trained by head office of Railminindia twitter team. The success will now lead from the divisional railways fixing issues timely in 10mins.
Railways must use knowledge of IIM professors to guide on new areas of revenue growth and also using non IIT students for knowledge transfer.

Railways must update its profile page with contact numbers to be displayed in Railminindia page of twitter itself. You can update your profile it is not big issue. The frequent no's u tweet right to ask for security helpline, pnr status all this can be updated In home page. For example the number 182, 1800111322 passenger security. Similarly details of centralised customer care to handle lack of water, lighting issues, mobile chargers, no pantry, lack of e-catering in that station, lack of RPF, broken or torn seats, late train, overcharging of food above MRP must be included in IVRS menu of customer care and number must be made famous. And the centralised IVRS must charge passengers who want to talk to customer care at 10p/min to provide better services and improve personnel at IVRS. Appoint or add more ex-servicemen in the customer care division to take more pro-active action. For those who want to just check estimated time of reaching destination, last station passed must be provided free of cost.
Ask passenger reservation centre when booking tickets and online also to get the mobile no and email entered in the system. Once a passenger completes a journey email can be sent out asking for feedback to centralised system from which it can be forwarded to various departments. Based on email id and details imbed in the email it can be used to process the issues if any issues you can email to clarify. The current IVRS system to get feedback is flawed the IVRS call happens when the train has not even crossed half way mark. The IVRS also asks only on punctuality. But doesn't focus on issues like is the toilet good, is the lighting and fans working, is the water available in the train, is mobile charger available. So please modify IVRS and IVRS needed or one after the travel is completed since anyway the punctuality factor cannot be changed once train has left station.
Having more regional quota in appointment of T.T.E as local language plays a key role in fixing and helping issues. During hiring of TTE Pls conduct exam region wise.
Also Railmin and railway minister must help Mos Railways some space for him to grow and show his skills. He is more interested to work but has been downplayed. In none of the photos he is there with Railway minister. Why is he kept in the dark? I saw the patience and interest with which he sat in parliament and listened to all concerns of MP's. Pls give space to him also. He is a good guy and want to learn like a kid. If groomed by Railway minister I think he can make a good leader in future.

Railways – E-Auction for purchase of EMU coaches similar to metro coaches with closing doors & A/C for usage in suburban operations at premium rate, Launch Railways smart card, 25 crores for setting up e-gates with both smart card and bar coded tickets in all suburban stations across the country, Railway medical clinic with doctor and pharmacy in all railway division headquarters for 24 * 7, Complete Chengalpattu – Arakkonam Railway line with electrification

Tender or e-auction to use existing metro coach manufacturers spread across the country to deliver suburban coaches for usage in EMU services across the country in Broad gauge standards similar to metro coaches. The current EMU coaches are outdated and lack facilities like A/C, closing doors, proper display, announcement, suspension, more space for standing and different seating arrangement.
Railway must immediately introduce smart card system by appointing global partner like world bank, private parties cum consultant and existing metro companies in India to advise on bringing out a smart card that can be used across the Railway network for booking tickets, unreserved tickets, booking online, recharging online the card and use for ticket booking, use for hotel booking. The smart card must be used similar to metro stations to deny few people access to the stations also, currently the metro stations deny access to passengers without smart card in which money is there to automatically debit or coins to put inside the e-gate. You can continue with printing bar code in tickets till people fully move to digital form of tickets. Ticketless travel in UP, Maharashtra, Bihar, Kolkata is a huge mess and Govt needs to take up seriously. The smart card must be made available as much cheaper cost as possible for those who recharge first time above Rs.100 must be given free and those who want the card alone can take at Rs.20. Make sure a global agency is appointed to help avoid cheating or coding of the card in future so global agencies will guide Railways on how to choose a card which will work over several years and for a large population and huge crowd in India with suitably designed efficient card. The card can be used to recharge at counters or online in irctc only. The card must be allowed to make any purchase in any of the shops in the railway stations premises and for parking and any activities in Railway premises by creating integrated system. Buying of tickets online in IRCTC must also allow usage of this card for purchase of tickets for those who don’t know to use debit card and can recharge this card and in turn use to buy tickets with help of tech savvy people. Smart card can consider having chip based card for higher security for those who travel very frequently and can carry lot of cash in that cards similar to RBI rules on chip based debit cards for others for cheapness of smart card initially give at Rs.20 and for those who recharge Rs.100 they can get free. To promote make offers regularly on discounts on ticket booking on all classes for usage of this smart card if you don’t give any offers the sale and usage of cards wont increase. Even small malls or shopping outlets give cards but Railways doesn’t have separate card. Currently railways has partnered with banks for cards but that is of no revenue to Railways. But if this card is there people will load the card and railways can deploy this funds for usage and if anyone asks for refund in the card at least Rs.20 should be held back for card manufacturing cost and then only refunded. Don’t so no refunds as more cards will get deployed unwantedly and returned cards can be put to other use and returned cards will indicate the pressure on railways to constantly improve features and rectify errors regularly.
Ticketless travel in suburban systems across the country in Mumbai, Chennai must be immediately implemented. No access to Railway stations platform must be given without a ticket. Even platform tickets must be banned unless the person accompanies is senior citizen or injured or needs help with oral justification. Platform tickets must also be printed in bar code or QR code. Using smart cards at the e-gates will help a long way in reducing ticketless travel. The ticket less travel prevention measures of installing e-gates must be setup in all suburban stations, top 3 stops under each DRM in one year as major crowd goes this way. Total spending of 25 crores this year will reduce ticketless travel in big way. Bar code in all express train tickets in 1 year.
Railways need to start a small medical clinic with pharmacy in all major railway stations as public welfare measure by appointing private doctors on contract basis. A small space can be allocated in all railway stations for 18 hrs work hours with 3 shifts for doctors. Some key stations can have 24 hrs that is all DRM heads locations will have 24 hrs operations other will have 18 hrs operations were express trains stop especially. The pharmacy must also be there. Nominal charges can be told by doctor to collect and Railways will pay doctors the salary for the work timings. Railways using their own doctors and private in contract will help serve public in a big way. Railways has doctors in separate hospitals but at stations will make a big revolution it has not been done by any Minister till now.

Indian Railways - Sniffer Dogs, R-wallet recharge with debit & internet banking, R-wallet recharge option in UTS and IRCTC mobile app in next 1 month, UTS app usage ads in all booking counters with cardboard of 1 metre size with printouts stuck with least cost but real publicity, Toilets at all suburban stations, Remodelling of EMU coaches with A/C, closing doors, mobile chargers in next 6 months as secret project similar to Mahanama train to use in Mumbai & Chennai suburban, Ticketless travel prevention similar to metro stations with smart card/coins since bar coded tickets may not be perfect solution due to cost involved in printing tickets

Trained sniffer dogs for usage by RPF at railway stations across India in shifts. The sniffer dogs must be trained by Army, State police, CRPF & other border security forces to use in Railway stations as huge crowd of public are entering and dogs are the only option left to ensure to have better security. Since nowadays depending on technology & humans for security wont be enough due to money play and foul play at times. Sniffer dogs must be at 50 per GM division and trained every 3 months and tested separately regularly by tests by state police, army and will be added advantage for security. Total 250 in 2 years
Non availability of options to recharge R-wallet for usage in railways for booking suburban tickets and unreserved tickets is not available neither in IRCTC website nor UTS app or anywhere. We have to go to a stupid website setup for that alone or to the counter. How did your designers or officers think of this concept it is totally wrong. Have the option to recharge R-wallet through debit card and internet banking within the UTS app, IRCTC app and IRCTC website immediately. Currently the recharge of UTS app has been favoured to paytm I have serious doubts on why this was done and Rs.10 extra charge per recharge. Have you all gone Mad. When such a big IRCTC website you can build why did you depend on paytm to recharge seriously doubt the Railways or the officers who designed this. R-wallet recharge by debit and internet banking will help Railways earn revenue as money will be there in the wallet and railways can earn revenue by using that money. But using paytm for this will only lead to your loss. And also after adding debit and internet banking to the payment option to help reach of the app and to reduce crowd at booking counters.
After changing app issues as listed above then put an offer that recharge of R-wallet for 3 recharge above 100 every 2 months Rs.10, Rs.500 recharge as Rs.50, Rs.1000 as Rs.75 will be credited to R-wallet. All tickets booked at least 15 days every month in the UTS app then add Rs.10 as credit to R-wallet to continue usage. These 2 strategies will not be big loss to Railways as this money will not be refunded. Since no wallet offers refund similarly R-wallet will also not offer any refund once credited. This will lead to self promotion of R-wallet. Also give option to Recharge R-wallet inside the UTS app
I am not sure if you have an app to book unreserved tickets. Embed that in IRCTC app or UTS app also for unreserved tickets booking across the country. As they need the most since they have to book within 20 mins before train arrives so standing in queue will lead to missing train or run to train without taking ticket. But if app is there they can buy after boarding train also.
Put large ads in cardboard sheets with sticking of print outs neatly on ways to use UTS app as many still don’t know that app exists. The best ads will be exactly above the booking counter so that all will know. Another ad you can place at the entrance of the booking counter also. Currently the UTS app is for certain stations only it is not justified. Just extend to all stations what difficulty you have you can reduce load of your employees and also reduce unwanted wait time at booking office.
ICF and Kapurthala and the coach factory which did Mahanama train to redesign at least few EMU coaches of each major suburban route in the country into A/C EMU coaches with mobile and laptop charger. No need for toilets due to heavy usage. This must be secret project and done in 6 months use the apprentice students who work in certain workshops across Railways. The refurbished EMU must have fibre glass doors like metro. The coach if designed is good then don’t go for tender to private to reduce costs. After trial you will know by feedback.
Using existing Metro coach manufacturers in the country production capability by creating a tender to invite those who can make EMU coaches with A/C facility and facilities similar to metro coaches but with broad gauge size. 50 coaches can be made with bid split across 2 companies to help reduce coach delivery time with total of 100 coaches to replace existing EMU coaches in cities and remodel EMU as DEMU to use in rural areas similar to current shuttle trips run. The current price of metro coaches can be used as base price to identify rates and plan accordingly. The earlier tender planned for 300 coaches with new facilities will lead to delay as current factories in India can be used which make for metro or imported some of them similar to how LHB was imported as technology transfer to be used by ICF, Kapurthala to make in India. There are various combination but combine all together some as imported with technology transfer, some to private to make, some to Railway factories to use existing for refurbishing.
Ensure toilets in all suburban stations currently not available in major stations and not visible of location. Example: Tambaram(TBM), Mambalam
Having barcoded/QR code tickets in all types of tickets irrespective of unreserved, reserved, A/C, non A/C, suburban stations, etc. in certain stations of UP, Maharashtra, Bihar, TN will lead to real ticketless travel reduction. The number of suburban stations are very less in the country compared to express train stations but ticketless travel scheme implemented in all suburban stations will increase revenue immediately. Please also put Barcode/QR code for monthly pass also. The bar coded system or a smart card or coins which can be re-used like used in metro stations may also be considered since it is time tested across India & worldwide. So for ticketless travel several solutions are there. For now print bar code in tickets but work fast on IR smart card faster at Rs.20

Railways - Robotics Contest to tap potential of Indian children and youth and solve issues quickly

New robotics contest similar to ROBOCON from across India to help find out any cracks in train tracks and avoid accidents and for deployment during flood prone regions and sense trains and move from train route. Cheapest & optimised solution will be considered. Gangman have a tough time going through entire stretch but sometimes in night even they cannot. Hence robotics will work with them to quickly check large sections of tracks with laser guided systems to find cracks in tracks, identifying tracks for repair. The robots must not disturb the existing signalling systems also. Can be put to test in routes which are not used much. Example: Madurai – Palani. 2) Robotics contest to help identify the water filling points in compartments and start filling automatically by checking the water levels. It will help prevent lot of unwanted work in yards 3) Robotics sweepers are available which can be placed at ground level and it will continuously sweep the floor can be used in dense and highly used platforms with lowest cost 4) Similar to diesel indicator for engines, water indicator for coaches must be indicated visible to passengers and the staff at ground level so that they can refill. Currently no mechanism to check water level is present. At least public can complain and get if filled before departure and especially very long distance trains. Railways must pay the best concept 1 Lakh as it will be of good motivation to get a best solution as all students will participate across the country and help patent the invention.
Why in the last Coach of LHB trains instead of power coach, a large battery compartment can be kept to store electricity and supply to all coaches also. The coach on top can have solar panel to supply battery power and self recharge and also save diesel or power from grid. The batteries may require maintenance every 6 months but trail can help know the real advantage in saving power. If power coaches are using diesel then considering battery compartment is much advisable. Battery or inverter setup will help ask IIT
Sticking of printouts on how to download and use the apps to purchase tickets for unreserved, suburban above ticket counter will go a long way. Currently the counters have not indication on how to use app and many don’t know. Many people don’t have time to read newspaper also they always work and work only. So putting above ticket counter many will be aware. Put ads in English, Hindi and regional language and links for Android, Apple and windows phone apps. Give phone no to ask queries & email id.
Similar to NHAI programme, Railways must create a programme to identify sections where most public cross tracks & avoid accidents by building compound walls or asking RPF to fine them or use metallic fencing to prevent entry and use of web cams to monitor movement.
Web cams at all suburban stations to monitor as only around 200 suburban stations across India will be there. The web cams on the train front and back also will help to monitor routes and take action on track crossing and monitoring of the route & stations from centralised location. The web cams which work over ip by using internet will work very well. The centralised monitoring will bring some improvements in stations as railway board cant come and visit all stations throughout the year. Webcams if purchased in bulk for 3000 pieces will come to very less amount and for internet use your own Railway network or partner with telecom operators or BSNL for each location.
Railways must create a feature in the IRCTC app so that public can enter their train number or PNR to check coach position at the stop of boarding so that places where train stops for 2 mins they can check and stand accordingly
Increasing stoppage time at Tambaram (TBM) and Kumbakonam stops to 5 mins and asking trains to compensate in running time. As 2 mins is not enough and most people miss the trains here seeing the huge rush and most trains close doors during night time and public have to run to next coach to catch and senior citizens cant do. If any train comes closely behind it can be received in next platform also as lot of platforms are there.
IRCTC app to request for electrical cart to move for senior citizens in app or mobile website, feature to check coach position, option to set alarm by giving PNR and train time and then syncing to mobile alarm or letting know time to set approximate reaching time minus half hour as you have data on approximate reaching time, option in IRCTC app to see current train position.
IRCTC website does  not render properly when used from mobile and shows only desktop style. Change the website to suite the mobile users also.
Using of drones to identify very busy routes across India by monitoring routes or with ISRO to help optimum timings to help seamless movement of trains and goods and planning time movement to the level of minutes with exact precision.
Updating the train passing time and asking IT experts or using super computers to device a time table for railways will prevent stoppage of trains. Super computers or normal computer with algorithm to setup the optimised time table will be helpful. I can also guide you on this if you need.
Using of maglev in proposed elevated corridor in Mumbai for faster movement. Maglev concept of shanghai rail can be used for reference. It is also used within city but with less stops. But you can try in India with multiple stops also. The tracks should be build such a way that it can be used for maglev and non maglev operations. Since in elevated corridor the chances of stealing magnet are zero. Pls partner with Shanghai, China for this project. They build it in record time. I have seen Chinese infrastructure they are very strong and fast doers. The security issues is unjustified since they are only going to fund and construct it. Shanghai build it in record 4 years with several kms the same if done in Mumbai will ease crowding in suburban. The areas like Powai are not connected by trains so try to connect. Use entirely the maglev for short lengths of 5 -7 kms and reaching end destinations very fast. The route must cover some of the existing routes & new routes criss-crossing entire city. It will be a milestone in the country and only Mumbai is the only city to test this seeing huge rush day in and out. The rich and upper middle class can use the maglev and the others can use suburban for travel. China built 1000 pillars for this in less than 1 year so they are very fast in doing. So you can complete in less than 2 years from sanctioning. Railways can have less than 20% stake, 60% Maharashtra, 20% govt of total 30%, rest China funding.

New revenue sources for Railways

Speeding up PPP development of Railway stations similar to airports by big contractors like GMR, Reliance, Adani and other mall companies like Phoenix To actively participate in the PPP as the development of railway station is similar to mall only. The malls have escalators in both directions to all floors similar from platforms to outside, malls have several food courts similar needed in railway stations, underground and parking facility for thousands of bikes and cars similarly needed at railway stations and earn from parking fee but if railway keep parking fee at very high rate like mall the railways will lose revenue as people will think better to go by bus as the cost of parking plus the travel cost will be triple of bus fare. So be careful on PPP on parking fee cost. Food courts must be combination of international , local and Indian food just allowing KFC wont be enough and not fair.
RO or mineral drinking water must be provided at railway stations with hot, cold and normal drinking water free of cost. Water bottle filling stations with coins or notes to refill water bottles will reduce plastic and cost. Refilling can be charged at Rs.5 per litre.
Ad revenue for PPP operator will be several folds by display of ads near coach display, on dustbins in platforms, on over bridge on top of platforms, entry and exit points, front and back of tickets & suburban tickets. Libraries and paper stalls. Separate stalls under IRCTC to give food at very cheap rates at key platforms since after PPP the stalls will charge very high than the actual train ticket. So IRCTC controlled stalls must be held by Railways under rules to have own stalls. Also IRCTC must hold some space for at least 20% of overall stalls so that it can compete with other stalls setup under PPP to keep prices low later also. Ads at the stations name plank will also bring in long revenues for them. Ads at railway station name at both ends can also be given but at very high rates.
PPP operator must build shelters at platforms, fans, lighting, etc,.
Cleaning of platforms, stations, toilets, water refuelling of trains will be major task to PPP operator at that stations. They must be allowed to use latest tech. Vacuum cleaners to clean platforms every 2 hours and every 1 hour at peak hours.
PPP operator must be asked to build underground railway stations or over ground to park trains as the capacity requirements keep increases at key stations. Just putting ads, stalls, escalators is cake walk for them to earn from ad revenue. They must spend like in airports for infra like increasing capacity of platforms by either building over ground or under ground railway stations to operate more trains.
Building of facility by PPP operator to scan baggage on all entrance points put private security of locals 40%, ex-servicemen 30% other states 30% and no other nationals(Nepal, etc,.) in the PPP of railways for security perspective.  Most private security give to Nepal and some state labourers they are not professional security guards. They cannot react at bad times. Hence private security must have 30% ex-servicemen at stations. Min 10 per station.
PPP of important stations across India and major tourist spots must be given immediately Example: Vijayawada, Varnasi, Kanyakumari, Rameswaram, Allahabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, all suburban stations in Mumbai, Chennai
Kolkata Metro need  not be given under PPP as it is already very neat. But you can give to increase any facility there are no stalls may be due to severe security constraints.
Inviting film stars to adopt Railway stations which are not planned under PPP model. I think PM can request stars over phone also to take up initiative as it will boost their films and social image also. Serious initiative to request stars to take up some stations for cleaning and upgradation of them. Railways must ask them to focus on non-urban stations as it will bring real change instead of actors eagerly looking forward to key stations of high revenue. Railways must approach actors with cost estimate of some stations which are remote but express trains stops for few mins but will make a long way. The cost estimate will help them choose easily and list of facilities which will be needed. Actors can commit for 2 years and can use stations for promotion of their movies with space allocated for banners.

Tambaram Railway Station Development - Both way escalator at Tambaram east entrance, one way escalator for ease of carrying baggage for express train departure and arrival platforms, Suburban coaches with closing doors by working with Anna University, Indian restaurants in Tambaram West and East side, Lifts with sponsors or Govt with name etched to help reach from platform to foot over bridge directly, Shelter missing in main platform where express train stops, Need more lighting at Tambaram east side

Tambaram Railway stations, Chennai which is to be made as new terminal by June 2016. Following points . I want PM & Suresh Prabhu to open by video conferencing.
Need for 3 escalators & Lifts– 1) Tambaram East side has an escalator only in one direction. I don’t know why Railways always hesitates to put escalators in both directions. Please put escalator to get down from top to bottom 2) There is a platform separately for movement of trains towards southern districts. Need for escalator in downward direction. 3) There is a platform for movement towards Chennai. But after getting down it is very difficult without escalator to carry all baggage. Need for escalator in upward direction from platform to over bridge above platforms. Please tambaram MP, MLA to provide some funds. Ask State Govt, Chennai corporation to also provide funds and at least 5 lakhs by Railway Minister personally and 2 lakhs by PM so make a mark that they had real hand in building 3rd terminal of Chennai. A.K. Mittal, DRM, GMS can also do.
The lifts if put up in the portion from platform to the over bridge directly so that public with wheelchair and senior citizens who cant get onto escalator can use the lifts. A lift from 3 platforms needed which are heavily used. 1 for suburban platform, 1 for express trains departure and 1 for arrival. Name of those who funded can put in a stone etched
LED display of coach positions in platforms is missing mainly in express train departure stations and in suburban stations. Public run here and there not knowing where the coach will be there. With the growth of Digital and Electronics still Railways in Tambaram a major boarding station near Chennai but the details of coach position are put up in board only. It will be very helpful if the coach position is displayed in LED in platforms. Southern Railways is very weak in this area which needs improvement
Lack of LED display in suburban stops like Tambaram where lakhs of people use daily. The LED display in stations similar to Mumbai suburban with exact time of departure, coach position – first class, ladies coaches, vendor coach. Soon A/C EMU so plan for that also. The LED display must display current railway time, the time of departure/arrival of train, destination of train and route also.
Lack of LED display on the foot overbridge on top of platform in Tambaram to display the EMU train timings. As many passengers wait on foot overbridge with no availability of which platform train will come and have to run from top to platform to catch train. Lighting on entire Tambaram East side is still very less and better lighting needed with LED scheme of power ministry at parking area, walking path.
Regarding the problem of open doors in Suburban trains - Tambaram EMU shed should partner with Anna University, IIT Madras and private universities to use Fiberglass technology to work on closing doors independently and not wait for Railways to setup team at Central level. Independent research by Tambaram EMU Shed, Chennai and Mumbai Suburban will lead to more trials and faster fixing of the issue of doors remaining open in the suburban trains. I am not looking for just press release in this regard real work needed to solve the issue and prevent loss of lives and prevent stupid passengers who get onto running trains and Railway staff have to face lot of issues. The metro doors can be purchased separately also in order to implement the idea with centralised control, the doors should have rubber portion at the closing points so if someone hand gets stuck they can pull themselves out. There needs to be sensors so suddenly if someone gets stuck it will open and re-close. Once implemented the suburban will help saving around 100 lives every year which itself is a big number. I don’t believe the current metal doors can be used as it should removed or will cause more loss of lives as they don’t have sensors or rubber portions at the centre. The doors are too heavy and cant be operated by motors even if installed and wont be efficient. So take on single EMU train set and implement all doors by either buying the Metro coach doors and start implementing and do trial. Use fibre glass or steel with glass or whatever but consult Universities to do this fast. It does not require budget and all just do it is the responsibility of Railways with revenue earned with passenger tickets.
Require multi-level bike and car parking as most bikes in Tambaram East & West side don’t have space to park bikes. Space to triple parking of bikes will lead to more usage of Railway station. Currently most avoid the station as there is overflow of bikes from the parking lots as it is not enough. Allocating space under PPP for multi-level parking alone will bring in huge revenues. Full PPP station of Tambaram is different but PPP of some areas for period of 10 years to anyone who can develop multi-level parking of 5 floors with space to hold 5,000 bikes, 2,000 cars needed. The 6th & 7th floor can be asked to have Theatre and Food courts to invite more participant's.
Food Courts are missing in Tambaram stations compared to Egmore stations. Need for Indian restaurants with capacity to server more than 1,000 passengers every hour. I read an article which says Railways has invited International brands to have pizza and others it is ok but Indian restaurants will only help many people. Sweet stall to buy sweets. ATM in platform of express train and suburban trains. Restaurants at East and west side needed as it is scope for huge revenue with lakhs of users.
Shelter on one side of Tambaram east side platform where express trains stop to go towards southern districts doesn’t have shelter. Around 400 metres lacks shelter.
Ad revenue from Tambaram EMU has been very low. Southern Railway must do e-auction of space for period of 6 months, 1 year, 2 years for the Tambaram station space on overbridge, entrance, space on top of escalator, EMU coaches inside, EMU coach exterior, EMU train engine front portion below glass and top at premium rates, full train EMU ads. Ads by e-auction will help get higher price instead of tender. Trial of e-auction for some identified EMU trains which run at peak hours can be done. Try to find sponsors for Escalators and permanent ad space to sponsor for escalator and lifts. The sponsor can take permission to setup and use that entire escalator space for ads. Especially the one towards platforms not the entry and exit escalator. The entry and exit escalator must be with Railways. Because ads and sponsors will target the entry points but passengers face lot of difficulty in taking baggage to reach to top by steps as more middle class move to upper class the baggage has increased and still taking by steps is not possible. I know Railways doesn’t have funds and cannot spend too much also. So find sponsors to entirely own and maintain the escalators and lifts to and from platforms along with steps also as sometimes escalators will not work. 15 years ads space and then hand over to Railways and permanent etching of name of sponsor near the escalator will be done can be assured. Invite Vodafone, Airtel, Hyundai, Maruti, Ford, DELL, Samsung, Sony, Tata Sky, Political parities, Actors and by public ads to participate in these activities. Same can be tried for Egmore and Central also as passengers face lot of issues taking baggage by steps. Design will be escalator with parallel steps and lifts in centre portion. Other than entire PPP of stations small steps like this will also help in long run for development.

Railways-Indian Flag at all Railway stations at the top with a beautiful view, Tax Free bond allocation to 30,000-50,000 crores instead of mere 2,500 crores, Roll-on-Roll-off across India, LED display in all station platforms where express & suburban trains stop to display coaches, Bullet Train for Mumbai – Delhi route within 3 months, High Speed or Bullet Train for Chennai – Bangalore – Hyderabad triangular bullet train for IT Industry, Fine of public who cross Railway lines, Wire Fence between lines in stations to prevent crossing, Seizing driving license of those who cross railway lines

Indian Flag at all Railway stations. As per law it is allowed to fly Indian flag at night also. I want immediately this work done at Chatrapathi Sivaji Terminus Railway station, Mumbai and within 6 months in Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and other major state capitals silent & strict orders without much media hype as it is responsibility to fly Indian flag. The flag must be big enough as per specifications.
Tax free bonds for year 2016-17 must be around 30,000 -50,000 crores as they repayment is split up across 7,10,15,20 years it wont be problem on repayment on that year and also Govt & Railways raising just 2,500 crores or little will make little impact on fast infrastructure development. You are using PPP for the bullet trains so for development of passengers lines by doubling/tripling and freight you have to use the tax free bonds for development as the return of investment can be done.
Similar to Konkan railwayRoll on Roll off projects across India connecting major hubs will release some pressure off the Highways & save time & reduce pollution & last mile connectivity as trucks can get off the wagon and start moving. IT will be huge success. Actually the scope of the project is after the last passenger train goes or in free slots if trucks move on to wagons and locked in they can be transported to any other part of the country with ease and then driver in the destination can start driving by road and nearest destination. Ask Railways to make so many wagons of the model to be used across India. Example: Chennai – Mumbai, Bangalore-Mumbai, Delhi-Mumbai, Kolkata-Mumbai, Kolkata – Delhi, Chennai – Delhi, Chennai – Kolkata for immediate roll on roll off project within 6 months. Re-modelling some of the existing wagons to be converted to his model. Roll-on-Roll-off will help Railways earn revenue till the freight corridor is constructed in big way. For Non metro routes within states the peak routes must also be allotted Roll-Roll off project on priority basis by using info from GM. Example: Chennai-Trichy/Madurai. Also consider Roll-on-Roll-Off routes between ports and important manufacturing junctions will be big hit. The project should be such a way that trucks can get off quickly on some stations & train can continue.
Immediate order to place LED display in stations where express trains stop for few mins as passengers have to run here and there to catch trains as they don’t know where the coach will stop. LED display with train number, destination as trains with same routes section cross stations at same time and destination is easy to know by anyone, display of LED in English, Hindi and Regional language of the station state, Coach number. Currently destination is not displayed and most of the time only train no is displayed.
Bullet Trains for Mumbai – Delhi must be given tender very fast as it is the potential route to be used as most rich people live in this region. If possible bullet train or conversion of existing tracks to 200kmph capability for Chennai- Bangalore-Hyderabad triangular bullet train for development by PPP.
A/C EMU Trains in all major suburban trains across India within 1 year by asking all coach manufacturing to make at least one set of trains. A/C EMU trains will help visible change in railways & also increase in revenue by having higher fares for A/C EMU trains. At least 10 sets of trains for EMU must be made quickly and also ask Metro coach manufacturers already in India to participate in tender to make A/C EMU coaches. Metro coaches are swanky and Railway Suburban coaches cannot be bad.
Near all railway crossing, stations lines where accidents take place RPF must stand and give fine slips immediately to earn revenue and at the same time save lives. Public are so restless and want to cross railway crossing in small gap between the barricade and enter with their vehicles the must be fined on the spot with driving license seized by join mission of the RPF and traffic police of respective state. Why should such people who cross with bikes be allowed to drive who put their lives at risk, train passengers at risk. Especially bike drivers and cycle drivers are restless. Cycle & bike must be confiscated. Railways must work with Police department of each state and give pamphlets & banners and give 20 days to change or fine procedure will be so severe that you will lose license and bike also. The fine amount will be used to build compounds across railway lines where most accidents happen without an iota of space to jump or go. In most railway stations public cross lines to reach another platform and RPF is incapable especially in suburban routes. On the spot fine of those people at least 2 RPF should move in group and do this activity with fine billed with electronic billing machine with option to swipe debit card also. Fine is the only way and using that money to build compounds & wired fence. Wired fence between lines in stations to prevent public to move from one platform to another. Wired fence is more cheap temporarily and cement compounds to prevent access from areas to railway lines. So combination of cement walls & wired fence between lines in platforms is a good choice. Until you start now it wont complete. Example: Mumbai Suburban, Chennai Suburban as too many lives lost. Most of the people who cross in major junctions which are busy is because Railway & state govt's have also delayed making bridges at these places. At least 2,000 crores must be allocated for building bridges at fast pace but tax free bonds issues for just 2,000 crores wont be enough. So have more tax free bonds as period of payment is 7,10,15 years.
PPP model should have escalators to all platforms in both ways, existing vendors must be protected, Multi-level parking of bikes, cars, buses in stations, entry by smart card/ticket. Space for taxi stand. Space for state govt buses to enter and exit to drop off and take in passengers. Space for books & libraries. Space for refreshing with proper restrooms to take bath & spas if possible. Metal detectors at all entry points. 4 tier security with private security with 40% of them ex-servicemen(PPP model developed), state police, RPF & CRPF in key stations. 5th level security by Army at vital stations and nearest defence bases by Army alone at vital points and threat locations. Example: Mumbai, Agra, Delhi, Chennai, Itarsi, Kanpur and all others. 4 level security defence system will prevent anyone from even thinking of doing any damage. Mumbai incident is a lesson and cannot be ignored just like that. Start 5 level security at key stations and make a practice to have 3 level security soon for non PPP stations & 4 tier in PPP model stations.
